It’s been quite a year. I still can’t believe that last June, I was plotting how best to kill off poor Pedro, and today I get to ecstatically announce that since its Christmas release, the Learning to Dance ebook has been downloaded more than one thousand times.

Things there are less than a thousand of:

  • days in a year
  • planets in the solar system
  • species of cats
  • songs that Glee has recorded

That number, when combined with the incalculable views LtD has seen online on Tumblr and Fanfiction.net, equals a whole lot more people than I ever imagined would read this little story of mine. The fact that new readers are still discovering it, new fanart is being drawn, and new tears are being shed even now continues to boggle my mind. You are all amazing.

(Incidentally, if you haven’t yet, I highly recommend getting yourself a copy of the free LtD ebook - available in PDF, mobi, and ePub formats, it’s the most up-to-date, polished, and best version of the story available - with bonus gorgeous full-colour illustrations by official artist Kendyll Romine!)

To celebrate, and as a lead-in to some even cooler announcements to come, I’m announcing the Learning to Dance 1000+ Downloads Tumblr Give away!

The Prizes:

Third Prize - A set of three adorable LtD buttons featuring fan-favourite quotes: “Wherever you’re going, Starship Ranger, I’m going with you,” “It’s always been you and me, right?” and of course, “Sometimes dreams come true.” These buttons are not currently available anywhere else!

Second Prize - An 8×10 art print of your choice from amazing artist Ree‘s LtD Society6 store and a set of three LtD quote buttons!

Grand Prize - The lucky grand prize winner will receive a truly rare gift – there are only three of these in existence in the world. Yes, I’m talking about your very own paperback copy of Learning to Dance! The Learning to Dance paperback is a real, bound book featuring a uniquely designed full-colour cover and black-and-white interior including all of Kendyll Romine’s original illustrations. As a work of fanfiction, it has never been, and will never be, available to purchase - this is literally the only chance you will ever get to own one. I will, of course, personalize an inscription for the winner inside the book’s cover. Oh yes, and I’ll throw in a set of LtD quote buttons too!

Have I caught your interest?

Rules:

  1. To enter, reblog this post up to three times a day. Likes count as well, but reblogging will maximize your chances of winning! (Please do not spam your followers, one can only do so much scrolling past multiple posts before one’s fingers get tired.)
  2. You don’t have to be following me to win, but I won’t argue with you if you do. :)
  3. For those of you who do not have Tumblr but would still like to enter: you will get a bonus entry if you share the top post on this page on Facebook (and if you want to “like” my author page while you’re there, I wouldn’t protest that either!).
  4. Winners will be selected from the reblogs and shares using a random number generator. Winners will be notified via private message, so make sure your ask box is open! If I don’t hear back from the winners within 48 hours of notifications going out, a new winner will be chosen.
  5. The contest will be open until 12 noon EST on Sunday, June 24th 2012.
  6. International entries are welcome, I will ship worldwide!

Happy reblogging, good luck, and thank you for everything.

EDIT: This event is now CLOSED - thank you to all who’ve entered! Winners will be notified within the next 24 hours. Good luck!

I think that’s pretty darn cool.

And I owe it all to you.

calculus-was-tough:

Hey LtD fans! I hope you like the eBook illustrations as much as I enjoyed making them!

In fact, how’d you like to have LtD illustrations on your wall?

Or as a laptop skin?

Or even a Learning to Dance t-shirt?

Well now you can! I am very excited to announce the official Learning to Dance Society6 store! Here you can purchase art prints, laptop skins, iphone cases, and yes, LtD t-shirts and hoodies!

Due to both my computer crashing (resulting in the loss of all my files) and copyright issues, I can only put up certain illustrations for now. But keep on the lookout, I’ll have more, brand new stuff up for sale soon! Hope you enjoy! <3

My “author authorization” is pending - once approved I will be able to add a cover image and links to the ebook downloads - but I am excited to announce in the meantime that Learning to Dance now has its own page on this popular book review site!

As I’ve just added it, its profile is looking a little lonely! I would greatly greatly appreciate, LtD readers, if you would be willing to share it, add your honest rating (3 seconds of your time!) or add a review to the page (you can sign in to Goodreads via Facebook, Twitter or Google if you don’t already have an account there). :D

If you do choose to post a review, please be honest - this is not an attempt to solicit only good ones (though of course that is every author’s hope)!

Thank you so much for your support all along this journey. It means so, so much.

… things we could do:

  • chat (it’s been awhile for me, and I would love to catch up!)
  • talk about the incredibly complicated and yet doable process of publishing a book yourself, which I now know exponentially more about than I did before
  • discuss Ree’s scavenger hunt and whether or not it’s been solved yet (oh yes oh yes I know where it’s leading, but I’m not telling, nope nope nope!) :)
  • plan our escape to Pigfarts
  • theorize/freak out about The Reichenbach Fall (if any of you are fellow Sherlockians, if not, I shall keep this to a minimum)
  • talk about my future writing plans, which are very exciting (to me) now that they are actual plans and not dreams or wishes (though those are nice too) :)
  • talk travel, if that’s something that interests you
  • and oh yes, that prompts business… if you give me one, I shall write it - right in front of you - on this Google Doc. (Angel, I totally stole this idea from you, I am not going to pretend it’s original.) I am a little nervous about this, as I tend to keep my drafting process tucked far away where no one can see - you may discover, as I believe, that the magic really happens during my revisions!
  • And finally, yes, I will give you the link to the .mobi (for Kindle) and .ePub (for every other eReader) editions of Learning to Dance. These editions come with a fully navigable table of contents and all the other slick features that come with eReaders - I hope you enjoy them!

A sincere thank you to all who’ve supported me and LtD over the past X number of months. It’s been a crazy ride, and for me, I wouldn’t hesitate to call it life-changing as I embark on a mission to take my dreams of becoming a “real author” and make it happen. Thank you for everything.

I feel like a lot’s been going down on my blog lately, so here’s a rundown in case you missed anything that interests you!

  • The Ranger and the Doctor begins - thanks so much for all of your feedback so far!
  • Stars Passing By continues with Part 11 - and another cliffhanger, I’m so sorry (but I’m not really) :)
  • Twelve Days of LtD prizes went out in the mail!
  • I wrote a fic request about the Doctor and Rose that I thought was a bit silly, but has been strangely popular (thanks, guys)!
  • And finally, the ebook reader versions (that is, MOBI and EPUB, for your reading pleasure on your Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Sony eReader, iPad, iPhone, etc) of Learning to Dance are ready to go! You’re welcome to join me to celebrate this Sunday at 8pm CET (2pm EST) for a Live Prompts event at my livestream channel and at this Google Doc. I hope that you will be able to come - start thinking about your requests!
